As demand for faster, more efficient delivery continues to grow, the future of logistics is increasingly shaped by automation. Technologies such as autonomous robots and aerial drones offer the potential to reduce congestion, improve delivery speed and create more sustainable urban systems.
In Sweden, foodora has been testing these possibilities through a series of drone and ground robot delivery pilots in the Stockholm region.

Drones and robots offer two complementary systems. Ground-based delivery robots, known as Doora, are designed to transport food and goods across short distances, navigating sidewalks and urban environments autonomously. Meanwhile, the Foodora Air project has been testing drone deliveries, enabling orders to be transported directly to customers’ homes from above and opening up new delivery areas.
These technologies have been tested in real-world conditions, including how robots interact with pedestrian infrastructure and how drones operate safely and efficiently in residential areas. The goal is to understand both the technical capabilities and the practical challenges of scaling autonomous delivery.

Beyond innovation, the initiative reflects a broader ambition to reshape urban logistics. Autonomous systems have the potential to reduce the number of delivery vehicles on the road, helping to ease congestion and improve safety, while also supporting more energy-efficient operations.
The Sweden pilots form part of a wider roadmap to introduce autonomous delivery across the Nordics.
